After conducting some more research, the team decided to come in from the ocean, using John in his/its submersible mode. But as they got closer, they found a couple of large (120 ft. long) Viper submarines. The rest of the team snuck onto shore as Drifter and Forsaken tried to disable the subs. But the subs had no propellers. No obvious steering mechanisms. An as they realized later, no hatches! After a while the decided to leave them as doing something really violent could give away their position.
On shore, the rest of the team waited. Eventually the noticed what appeared to be high technology energy weapons attached to the cranes, but they seemed to be powered down. From the nearby ship, they could hear late night television and some different radio channels. A couple of the cabins and portholes on their side had lights on, showing that someone was likely awake. In one of the cabins they found a surprise – a scraggly old homeless man who had been waiting for them. As he watched Wheel of Fortune reruns and ate his McDonald’s fries, he asks them to please rescue Ms. Marian Baxter, daughter of the wealthy Baxter family. He says that she hooked up with the wrong people and ended up here (he has a picture of her obviously ripped from a fashion magazine). He doesn't know her, has never met her, and says that his kind don't travel in the same social circles, but if she is rescued, he will be rewarded. As for how he got aboard... He simply told anyone that saw him that they really hadn't seen him, and they agreed. The old man's name is Simon and apparently what Some says, happens. Stacy figures it's some sort of mind control or possibly mental illusions.
After they regrouped, they made their way from the dock to one of the balconies on the port side of deck 7-aft. This deck looked to be mostly cabins and in them they found several sleeping (and a couple awake) Viper agents, all of which were soon sleeping more soundly. Going down a deck, they found more cabins and the doorway/gang plank leading to other side of the docks. At this deck (6) the spiral staircase they were using didn't go down any further and they were able to determine that decks one through five are probably engineering/maintenance. Although they could hear something large moving about below decks, they chose to go up.
Deck eight has their first bit of resistance. There are some Viper agents on guard. They go down quickly, but the alarm is raised – although from the annoyed voice of the intercom, people don't always respond to the alarms. Something about crying wolf too many times. It seems that Viper may have held too many “The Heroes are Attacking!” drills.
